begins to nibble at the ripe apple that is so sweet and good. An idea is born. We bite through it, and when we are sufficiently satiated, we start to create – to paint.
First we sketch what we want to draw, paint, with a faint pencil on a quarter. Either according to a photograph or our own imagination. Others draw, paint according to reality in the open air – outdoors, in nature, “in the air” (French en plein air), in the city, etc., or according to a live model (portrait) or another subject they decide on, e.g. still life with fruit. The sketches are the first thoughts – the lines of what the picture will look like. At this initial stage we can use an eraser if the intention does not turn out as we imagine. The intention – what we want to draw, paint – is very important. It needs to be well thought out so that the picture looks balanced and pleasing. Also the choice of colours and composition (layout of objects) will influence its radiation. We can also think in advance about where to hang the picture so that it fits the subject matter and colours of the space where we want it to be seen. If we want to give the picture as a gift, it is a good idea to choose a subject that is close to the recipient.
The sketched image is then painted with artful brushstrokes. If you prefer to draw, use crayons, pastels, chalks. For different painting techniques (watercolour, tempera, acrylic, oil) we have special papers, canvases, paints, brushes and ways to paint.
It is good to read about it and buy everything you need to make a successful picture.
Information can be found on the internet or in books about painting. There is a plethora of them on the market.
We can also improve our skills in an art club or course, which are available for children and adults in every major city. But the most important thing is to paint and paint – as in other activities we try, practice, repeat to be good. Talent is also essential, and it makes everything much easier. If we have talent, we usually come by ourselves to painting as something that is close and pleasant to us. Like a person who can sing. Singing is a form of self-expression for him – and I think it is the same with painting.
We then hang the finished picture on the wall, where it will surely delight us and remind us of the good times we have had, or remind us of places that have captivated us, enchanted us in some way.
