Cycling is one of the most popular sports not only in our country but basically all over the world. Many families go for a ride in the countryside on Sundays after lunch. Many people use bicycles as a cheap means of transport. In recent decades, a large number of good quality cycle paths have been built in the Czech Republic, making cycling much more comfortable and safer than before.
A whole range of people go on cycling holidays and you can find travel agencies that specialise in this area.
Yet you can also find cycling that is a bit different. These are the so-called velocipedists. I\’m sure many of you will deduce from the name that these are people who ride vintage old bikes.
Activities of velocipede clubs
We can divide velocipedists into two types. The really old ones, the ones you remember from historical films, where the front wheel is huge and the back wheel is tiny and the ride itself is quite different from normal cycling. Riding this kind of bike requires extraordinary skill.
And then among velocipedes we also include the old bikes, which already work on a principle basically similar to the current ones.
It may not seem like it, but there is a really large number of velocipedists in our country. You can find a large number of velocipedist clubs all over the Czech Republic .
Being a velocipedist is about a certain style. Velocipedists go out for rides together not only on historic bikes, but they are also properly dressed.
It is not surprising that velocipedists attract a lot of attention and interest on their tours. Therefore, part of the activity of the clubs is also for the public.
At various social events, velocipedists are often invited to add variety to the programme. Some activities are organised by the velocipede riders themselves. For example, the velocipedists also have their own races. Another activity they do is various fundraising rides.
